A documentation solution can have reference solutions defined. Sometimes, due to changes, these references can be hidden.

Before exporting the documentation solution from the product VM, check the solution for (hidden) references and consolidate the solution.
You can use these RapidValue options to explore and solve reference issues:
  • View solution reference hierarchy
  • Consolidate solution

Technical writer Technical writer Start Start View solution references hierarchy View solution references hierarchy You can view how a solution is related to other solutions. The solution relations are defined by the solution references. Each solution is shown as a building block in the solution references hierarchy. The current solution is highlighted. If you click the text in a building block, the Business process presentation viewer is opened for the solution. To show the solution references, this logic is applied (the texts between the brackets refer to the example picture):If the current solution:Has a reference solution defined, this reference solution is shown above of the current solution. (Solution8 has reference: Solution2)If a reference solution of the current solution is also defined as a reference solution in another solution, the other solution is shown next to the current solution. (Solution5 has reference: Solution2)If a solution, that has the current solution as reference, is also defined as a reference in another solution, this other solution is shown below the solution. (Solution7 has references: Solution4 and Solution5) Procedure 1. Click Business process modeling. 2. In the Solution field, enter or select a value. 3. On the Overview tab, click View. 4. Click Global implementation view. 5. Close the page. Consolidate solution Consolidate solution In a solution, you can use elements from reference solutions. To consolidate the current solution, you can merge these elements into the current solution. So, you make these elements unique for the current solution. You can consolidate one reference solution at a time. If several reference solutions are available, carefully select which one to consolidate first. Duplicate elements If you consolidate a solution, duplicate elements can be found. So, elements from the reference solution can already exist in the current solution. You can define what action is taken if a duplicate is found: Keep both elements; the copied elements get a suffixUse destination element For each duplicate that is found, a task is created and assigned to the user who does the consolidation. Such a task describes the found duplicate and the action that is taken. You can use the task to check whether the right action is taken and to make changes, if required. Reference solutions As a result of the consolidation, the selected reference solution is removed from the reference solutions of the current solution. Note: In a reference solution, you can also use elements from another solution (which is a reference solution of your reference solution). You can have used such elements in your current solution. In this case, the reference solution of your reference solution is added as a reference solution to the current solution. Example: Solution 'Base' has a reference solution 'A'. Solution 'A' has a reference solution '1'. In solution 'Base', you have used a flow from solution 'A'. This flow in solution 'A' has an activity from solution '1'. If you consolidate solution 'A' into solution 'Base': Solution 'A' is removed as reference solution from solution 'Base'.Solution '1' is added as reference solution to solution 'Base'. Procedure 1. Click Business process management. 2. In the list, find and select the desired record. 3. Click Edit. 4. Click Consolidate to open the drop dialog. Note: If no reference solutions are shown on the Consolidate dialog, this does not always mean there are no references. To make sure no reference solutions are linked to the current solution: 1. On the Business process modeling workspace, on the References tab, add a reference to a random solution. 2. Consolidate for this solution. 3. Again open the Consolidate dialog and check for referenced solutions. If no reference solutions are shown, no hidden references exist for the current solution. If reference solutions are shown, consolidate these. Beware: If several reference solutions exist, it can be that also references exist between these solutions. To be able to consolidate the current solution, it can be required to first consolidate its reference solutions. 5. If you consolidate a solution, duplicate elements can be found. So, elements from the reference solution can already exist in the current solution. You can define what action is taken if a duplicate is found: - Keep both elements; the copied elements get a suffix: A copy is created of the reference solution element. The copied element gets a number as suffix. If you choose this option, no data is lost from both the reference solution and the current solution. - Use destination element: The element that already exists in the current solution is used. So, no copy is created. If you choose this option, you get a smaller and consistent solution. However, be aware that you can lose some data where elements from the reference solution are replaced by elements from the current solution. In the Action on duplicates field, select an option. Note: If you choose Keep both elements; the copied elements get a suffix, flows and activities often don't get a suffix. For flows, often the related process already gets a suffix before the flow is found. And as the process is a key field of the flow, the process with the suffix makes the flow unique. For activities, often the related area already gets a suffix before the activity is found. And as the area is a key field of the activity, the area with the suffix makes the activity unique. 6. Click OK. 7. Click OK. 8. Close the page. Notes Only the reference solution elements that are used in the current solution are consolidated. End End

View solution references hierarchy

Technical writer

You can view how a solution is related to other solutions. The solution relations are defined by the solution references.
Each solution is shown as a building block in the solution references hierarchy. The current solution is highlighted. If you click the text in a building block, the Business process presentation viewer is opened for the solution.
To show the solution references, this logic is applied (the texts between the brackets refer to the example picture):
  • If the current solution:
    • Has a reference solution defined, this reference solution is shown above of the current solution. (Solution1 has references: Solution2 and Solution 3)
    • Is defined as reference solution of another solution, this other solution is shown below the current solution. (Solution1 is reference of: Solution 4 and Solution5)
  • If a reference solution of the current solution also has a reference solution defined, this solution is shown above the reference solution. (Solution8 has reference: Solution2)
  • If a reference solution of the current solution is also defined as a reference solution in another solution, the other solution is shown next to the current solution. (Solution5 has reference: Solution2)
  • If a solution, that has the current solution as reference, is also defined as a reference in another solution, this other solution is shown below the solution. (Solution7 has references: Solution4 and Solution5)

Consolidate solution

In a solution, you can use elements from reference solutions. To consolidate the current solution, you can merge these elements into the current solution. So, you make these elements unique for the current solution.

You can consolidate one reference solution at a time. If several reference solutions are available, carefully select which one to consolidate first.

Duplicate elements

If you consolidate a solution, duplicate elements can be found. So, elements from the reference solution can already exist in the current solution. You can define what action is taken if a duplicate is found:

  • Keep both elements; the copied elements get a suffix
  • Use destination element

For each duplicate that is found, a task is created and assigned to the user who does the consolidation. Such a task describes the found duplicate and the action that is taken. You can use the task to check whether the right action is taken and to make changes, if required.

Reference solutions

As a result of the consolidation, the selected reference solution is removed from the reference solutions of the current solution. Note: In a reference solution, you can also use elements from another solution (which is a reference solution of your reference solution). You can have used such elements in your current solution. In this case, the reference solution of your reference solution is added as a reference solution to the current solution.

Example:

Solution 'Base' has a reference solution 'A'.

Solution 'A' has a reference solution '1'.

In solution 'Base', you have used a flow from solution 'A'. This flow in solution 'A' has an activity from solution '1'.

If you consolidate solution 'A' into solution 'Base':

  • Solution 'A' is removed as reference solution from solution 'Base'.
  • Solution '1' is added as reference solution to solution 'Base'.
